Program Overview

Programs Specially Designed for Successful International Nurses

Through our Master of Business Administration with a concentration in healthcare administration, our program seeks to address the U.S. nursing shortfall by preparing trained nurses from overseas to practice as U.S. nurses, and ultimately, as healthcare managers assuming leadership roles in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. The program equips students with both the breadth and depth of knowledge as well as the skills to respond to real-world healthcare challenges in the U.S. or internationally.

For internationally trained nurses with the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree: This program is offered at both Northwest Christian University in Eugene, Oregon and at Sullivan University in Lousiville, Kentucky. The program can be completed in between two and three years -- depending on the school -- with nurses earning a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration healthcare administration. Soon after entering the program, nurses begin working in health-related or other organizations. Within the first year, international nurses become licensed to work as U.S. registered nurses, earning from $25 to $50 an hour.

For internationally trained nurses with a three-year nursing diploma: This program is only offered at Sullivan University in Louisville, Kentucky.  The program is extended by approximately 30 credits so that at the conclusion of studies, nurses will have satisfied all undergraduate requirements and have earned a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in healthcare administration. Soon after entering the program, nurses begin working in health-related or other organizations. Within the first year, international nurses become licensed to work as U.S. registered nurses, earning from $25 to $50 an hour.

****************************

For internationally trained nurses who hold a current and valid state license to practice as registered nurses in the U.S. In order for a nurse to work in the U.S., she/he must hold a nursing license issued by the state in which she works.  For those nurses who hold a nursing license in a state other than the one in which they will be attending school, we have a streamline program where we assist these nurses in securing a license to work. This service is available in Oregon for students attending Northwest Christian University and in Kentucky for students attending Sullivan University. For this service we do not charge the customary IHE program fee of $7,500 but instead charge a non-refundable, one-time participation fee of $2,500.  Nurses are responsible for all direct, third-party fees as required by the board of nursing of the state in which they desire to work, and any other third-party fees as required.
